Three days ago my fiber line was hit by some workers down the street, notified the internet provider of the issue and was told I would be back online in a few hours. on the second day of being offline I decided to try and use my cell phone’s hot spot by connecting ipfire via wifi to my phone. I was simply amazed how simple it was to do.
1)plugin usb wifi dongle
2)using ssh run setup and go to networking
3)go to Drivers and card assignments and remove the current red interface
- next on the same screen select the red interface and then select the usb dongle
5)back out of card assignments and go into address settings, select DHCP if it isn’t already (if static then make sure to take a picture of your ip info before hand)
6)refresh the WUI and under the system tab you should see a new option of wireless client, click on that and configure the hot spot info and within a few mins you should be online via your cell phone.
I was truly impressed that the team made that so easy to do, good job!
just thought i would share this experience since it tought me a few things in the process.
